Last month, Toyota issued a massive recall of nearly 4 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The recall is intended to fix a very dangerous defect which can lead to unintended acceleration of the vehicle. Initially thought to be an issue with the floor mats interfering with the gas pedal, the real problem involves the cars’ electronic throttle system.

Cadillac recently unveiled its 2011 CTS Coupe at the LA Auto Show. It’s the latest and most dramatic of the brand’s new production designs and scheduled to arrive in Cadillac showrooms in the spring of 2010.

The CTS Coupe is a new luxury sports coupe designed to become the centerpiece of the brand’s revised lineup. The CTS Coupe’s design is virtually unchanged from the concept car that was introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2008. Watch the video and drool!

McLaren has recently unveiled a new 600 hp ’super sports’ car, featuring technology borrowed from its Formula 1 experience. This vehicle has been engineered to be as environmentally friendly as possible, boasting the lowest carbon output per hp of any car currently available.

This is a new venture into the super car market, and the company is building a new production line to turn out up to 4,000 of them a year. The BBC’s Richard Scott has been given an exclusive first look at the car.

The BMW 7-Series Sedan

This is the fifth generation of the BMW 7 Series, which the company looks at as a new interpretation of its familiar style and luxury. It will feature three new engines, said to be cleaner-running, more efficient, powerful and satisfying in every way.

The narration is this clip doesn’t give a lot of detail after its body shape, but if you watch closely you’ll pick up on its features including heated seats and video monitors for rear passengers. I don’t know whether making 300kw and 400 Nm is impressive performance or not…

The 2009 Nissan 370Z

If you want to start thinking about a car to look at in time for the year-end clearances, keep this one in mind. This is almost a retro-style car – if you remember the 70’s, or you’ve at least heard of them, you’ll recognize the styling cues.

It has a 3.7 liter engine, makes 332 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque…comes with your choice of a 7 speed automatic or 6 speed manual and gets a ‘kind of respectable’ 26 mpg on the highway. It was priced at around $30,000 new so you might be able to get a nice price now.

2009 Jaguar XFR Preview

It doesn’t really look like a ‘made by Jaguar’ car, but it’s a good looking and muscular performance sedan with a supercharged V8 that makes 510 horsepower and does the 0 – 60 run in 4.7 seconds. Jaguar claims it will beat anything in its class… it might be able to take ‘em in the playground after class, too!
